Wilder Coast Volunteer - Sandwich & Pegwell Bay Area

Join a team of Kent Wildlife Trust ambassadors helping to increase public awareness at Sandwich and Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve.

Location: Dover
  • Commitment: Any day

  • Frequency: Week

  • Location: Sandwich & Pegwell Bay Area

Wilder Coast Volunteers are ambassadors for Sandwich & Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve, raising awareness about how and where people can share the bay responsibly with its wildlife.

Why do we need you?

We need people to understand which areas they should avoid for the good of the birds that depend upon the site and how they can help us reduce disturbance levels, as well as helping them learn about the rich wildlife found in this special place.

We are also looking for people interested in volunteering who may not be so confident with interacting with the general public to record activity as you walk around the reserve.

You’ll be a vital Kent Wildlife Trust presence helping to protect a sensitive and important reserve and acting as extra eyes and ears for the warden team.

A day in your life might include:

Having a walk around the reserve chatting with visitors and/or monitoring the activities that take place, whilst enjoying the beautiful landscape of the bay.

Experience and skills needed for this role

  • Be passionate about wildlife and the environment but no specialist knowledge is needed
  • Have a cheerful, friendly and calm personality
  • Happy to carry out your role alone (buddy up systems can arranged if you would prefer to work in pairs)

Benefits and training opportunities

Full training will be provided. You’ll get to enthuse people about their local wildlife, helping them to get closer to nature.

Considerations

  • Reasonable expenses can be paid
  • You will need to be physically fit as some of the grazing areas have rough terrain, tussocks, boggy ground etc. that you need to be able to negotiate
