Open Gardens

Wild About Gardens Advisor

We need enthusiastic volunteers to support & enhance our Wild About Gardens team. You will help the team to encourage people to take action in gardens & communal green spaces to reverse loss of biodiversity.

Location: Swale

Wild about Gardens aims to encourage everyone in Kent & Medway to take action in gardens & communal green spaces to reverse loss of biodiversity. We engage with diverse groups of people who aren’t currently interested in nature, gardening and the environment to encourage them on their journey with KWT. For this reason, we need to recruit more enthusiastic volunteers to support & enhance our existing team of approximately 30 people.

Wild about Gardens covers the whole of Kent & Medway, but volunteers can stipulate areas they are prepared to travel to.

Why do we need you?

Since the pandemic, more people are becoming engaged with nature and we need to capitalise on this by encouraging people to create nature friendly corridors across our towns, cities & countryside. Wild about Gardens momentum is on the increase & we need more enthusiastic volunteers to help us grow.

These are the main WILD ABOUT GARDENS work strands – note volunteers are not required to take part in all of them:

  • Supporting our Open Gardens- manning advice desk & check in, leading tours, helping with set up & taking down, plant stall.
  • Supporting our workshops – live or zoom
  • Helping with displays at events run by other organisations.
  • Writing newsletter articles and blogs.
  • Assisting with garden visits/telephone advice.
  • Assisting with training and mentoring of newer volunteers.

What are the benefits?

The Wild about Gardens volunteers are an enthusiastic, friendly & inclusive team who will welcome like-minded people into the group. Some formal training is provided but the most useful training is “on the job” via our mentoring scheme.

This is a chance to develop new skills but more importantly to feel you are involved in a very worthwhile project.
