The sun shone beautifully at our official launch event for the Kent Wildlife Trust 2015 Wild about Gardens Awards Scheme and was attended by last year’s winners with a cake cutting by lead sponsor Amicus Horizon (pictured right). Our guests also enjoyed tours of the Farmhouse Garden - created by the Trust’s volunteer garden team.
A celebratory lunch was held for winners of the special awards for 2014:
Vincent & Sam Lloyd of Folkestone (BEST WILDLIFE GARDEN IN KENT)
Brenda Brewer of Maidstone (JEWEL IN THE TOWN)
Trevor Burton of Eastry (TOP OF THE PLOTS)
Ian Wolverson of Ashford (BEST GARDEN FOR BATS)
Gwen Richardson of Ashford (GARDEN WITH THE BEST BUZZ)
Rebecca Roberts of Paddock Wood (BEST GARDEN FOR REPTILES AND AMPHIBIANS)
Richard & Roz Goodenough of Godmersham (BEST WATERWISE WILDLIFE GARDEN)
The Wild about Gardens Awards Scheme is free to enter. Anyone who has, or is developing, a wildlife friendly garden in Kent is welcome to take part, however large or small their plot and whether they are a business, community group, school, allotment, private garden or even a collection of adjoining gardens.
Kent Wildlife Trust’s volunteer gardening advisors aim to visit as many entrants as possible during the season and recommend gardens for bronze, silver or gold certificates as well as giving out useful advice.
In addition, ‘Gold’ winners receive one of the Trust’s coveted Wild about Gardens blue plaques and may be put forward for one of the nine special awards for gardens of particular merit.
