“The €30,000 funding could be a game-changer for this incredibly important and much-loved wetland habitat and help us to do more for the amazing array of wildlife that lives there including water vole and avocet. It will also help us to improve paths, and access to the bird hide so more people can enjoy the reserve. We need votes though, it's a click of a button and we really would be delighted if people can help us - it would mean everything to be one of the three lucky winners!”
Our plans include:
- Re-profiling existing wetland scrapes – the mudflat areas where avocet, lapwing and water rail can rest and feed – and creating three new scrapes;
- Clearing sediment and vegetation build-up that is stopping some key wetland plants from thriving;
- Restoring ditches to create more open water;
- Creating additional species-rich grassland – vital for our rare flowers, insects and birds;
- Improving access for visitors including better paths and access to the bird hide.
