In the early 19th Century Robert Pocock of Gravesend Kent UK began a collection of local plants for his herbarium. The Pocock herbarium is a unique record of the botanical heritage of our area and has been effectively 'lost' for the last 200 years.
In September 2013, with the support of the Natural History Museum, Kent Wildlife Trust and a Heritage Lottery Grant, a group of volunteers started the search for Robert Pocock’s 240 plant specimens. Come and view their results at Kent Wildlife Trust's HQ Tyland Barn (Sandling, Maidstone) and find out more about this fascinating project. Click here for event information.
*Please be aware that Tyland Barn is open to the public Wednesday–Friday 10am–5pm and Saturday–Sunday 11am–4pm. Access for limited mobility and wheelchair users is good. Assistance dogs welcome.
