Become a citizen scientist to help stop the loss of species and discover the incredible wildlife of Romney Marsh

The Fifth Continent Landscape Conservation Scheme, led by Kent Wildlife Trust, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and made possible by National Lottery players, are inviting Romney Marsh residents to make a real difference to local wildlife.

If you enjoy gardening or going for walks in the countryside and are interested in taking action to help stop the decline of wildlife, then this is the perfect opportunity for you. The Fifth Continent team needs residents to get involved in surveying the wildlife of the Romney Marsh in a necessary step in understanding its biodiversity. Once the data is collected, the findings will be used by partner conservation organisations to develop solutions to improve biodiversity in the area.

All abilities and skill levels are welcome, just enthusiasm for nature and a desire to make a difference is all that is needed for this role. The Fifth Continent team will help you build your knowledge and confidence in conservation evidence.

You can decide where you would like to start surveying; in your garden, where you walk your dog, or a longer fixed route. All wildlife observations will usefully contribute to a better understanding of how the abundance and distribution of different plants and animals are changing over time.

This is a flexible opportunity that can fit around your existing commitments. Through this year there will also be opportunities to participate in short courses in the evenings, during the day and at weekends so that anyone and everyone can learn how to identify various species and use simple methods for recording them.
