10 must-visit Kent woodlands
Be sure to check out these 10 woods whilst exploring Kent, each offering something a little different across the county.
On Thursdays and Fridays during August, discover more about the new children's book 'the Bison and the Butterfly' at Tyland Barn. Find out more about how the book was created, and introduce all ages to the benefits of 'wilding' at this family-friendly exhibition. You'll see how illustrator Nancy Leschnikoff developed the characters and how their behaviour in the story is inspired by the real-life animals living in West Blean and Thornden Woods.
Pick up an activity pack to follow the story and complete the trail around the nature park. Once you've finished the trail, you can take home your Bison and Butterfly puzzle booklet and your illustrated book bag to use again and again! £5 per pack.
This summer, join Kent Wildlife Trust's Education team to discover the pond life at Tyland Barn. You'll learn how to safely pond dip without disturbing the wildlife, and have a go at identifying the creatures you find. What will you discover living beneath the surface of our pond?
Join Sevenoaks Jeffery Harrison Visitor Centre, where you will be shown how to dissect their pellets and identify the remains within. This workshop is suitable for adults, young adults and older children with an interest in the natural world, beginners and more experienced wildlife enthusiasts alike!
Did you know that 57 species of dragonfly and damselfly can be found in Britain? Take part in our family workshop at Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve and learn how to identify local dragonflies and damselflies. This workshop includes a game of dragonfly bingo, followed by making dragonfly themed ornaments to take home.
Join Kent Wildlife Trust for a free session of rockpooling, made possible thanks to Folkestone and Hythe District Council. Explore life beneath the waves and meet the fascinating creatures that call the Kent coastline their home. Learn to identify our local marine wildlife and how to handle creatures safely in the company of our expert tutors.
We hope you have a great bank holiday weekend and find something fun for the whole family. If none of our events are quite right for you, why not take a trip to one of our reserves? We'll see you soon!
