Most people perceive ‘exercise’ as running yourself ragged on a treadmill, or attending an exuberant dance class – however, there is another way! Walking is a simple way of attaining the minimum amount of exercise that Doctors recommend for the week, 150 minutes … or just 30 minutes a day 5 days a week!
A brisk walk to the shops, walking to work, or a walk round your local park with the dog can improve not only your health, but your well-being too!
Walking For Health have published the Walking Works report using research from MacMillan Cancer Support and The Ramblers, showing that walking really is key! To read a summary of the report, click here.
Here at Kent Wildlife Trust, we want to do our bit! The Older and Out There Project officer, Vicky Aitkenhead and the project’s Trainee, Lucy Carden completed NHS Health Walk Leader training and will be starting a monthly health walk – nature style!
The walk will be on the First Thursday of the month and will be based at Hothfield Heathlands in Ashford. We will meet in the car park (TN26 1HD) at 10am and the walk will approximately finish at 11:30am.
We will take a gentle stroll around the heathlands pathways, taking a look at the wildlife on the way – so bring a pair of binoculars or a keen pair of eyes!
Please contact Vicky Aitkenhead on vicky.aitkenhead@kentwildlife.org.uk or 07747608826 if you’d like to come along or for more information.
