Put the FUN in Fundraising for Kent Wildlife Trust

Put the FUN back into fundraising with these five suggestions for schools from Tom White, our Wilder Kent Education Officer. Think bake sales, fun runs, art auctions and more!

Get ready to embark on a wild adventure and support Kent Wildlife Trust while having a blast along the way. This blog will detail five exciting ways schools can fundraise for Kent Wildlife Trust whilst having fun! Picture students, teachers, and parents coming together in a whirlwind of creativity and enthusiasm to help preserve our natural world. So, what are you waiting for?!

A non-uniform day with a wildlife twist

A staple of British schools fundraising, but why not hold a non-uniform day with a twist – encourage students to come to school dressed as native British wildlife! Not only does this add an educational aspect to the event, but it will also make it more engaging and memorable. Think foxes, badgers, squirrels and even bison! Ask students to make a small donation to participate and remind them that their contributions will directly support the very wildlife they are representing!

Sponsored fun run

Organising a sponsored fun run is a fantastic way to get students and families involved in fundraising. Participants can seek sponsors for the distance they run, and how you complete the run is up to you. Why not incorporate a wildlife-themed element, such as encouraging pupils to dress up as native British wildlife or even organising the run through a scenic natural area or wildlife reserve local to you? Simply download your sponsorship form and get running!

Quiz night hosted by pupils

Get the whole school community involved in a wildlife-themed quiz night hosted by students. Teachers, parents and students can form teams and compete for prizes while answering questions created by the pupils related to local wildlife. Charge a small entry fee and consider partnering with local businesses to donate prizes or sponsor the event.

Wildlife-inspired bake sale

A bake sale is a classic fundraising idea, but you can give it a wildlife twist by having students create baked goods inspired by British wildlife. Think cupcakes decorated as hedgehogs, cakes shaped like birds, or even bison shaped biscuits.

Host an art auction featuring student creations

Tap into the artistic talents of your pupils by organising an art auction! Encourage your children to create artwork inspired by native British wildlife, such as paintings, drawings, or sculptures, and then host an evening event where parents and community members can bid on these unique pieces. Not only does this showcase students' creativity, but it will also generate feelings of immense pride in the children and will also foster a deeper connection to the cause.

Schools can be a hub of positive change, not only in the education of our children but also in fostering a sense of responsibility towards the environment. By organising these creative fundraising initiatives, schools can both raise funds for Kent Wildlife Trust and instil a lifelong passion for wildlife conservation in the hearts of their students. Together, we can make a difference in protecting native British wildlife for future generations.
